What is a doula?
So glad you asked!
A doula is a trained support person for an expectant Mama before, during &/or after childbirth.
She is trained to provide continuous one-on-one physical, emotional, mental, informational & (upon request) spiritual support.
Reasons to hire a doula…
Birthing people who receive continuous support from a doula experience a/an:
- Decrease in the use of pitocin (synthetic oxytocin).
- Decrease in the risk of cesarean delivery.
- Increase in the likelihood of a spontaneous vaginal birth.
- Decrease in the use of medications for pain relief.
- Decrease in the risk of a dissatisfying birth experience. - Having someone to speak to without the fear of judgement.

You read that correctly. I am a firm believer in NOT starving during labor. Would you run a marathon on nothing but ice chips? Me neither. I encourage light snacking & hydration through methods other than just…“clear liquids.”
